Chandratal Lake

Chandratal Lake, which literally means "Moon Lake", is a high-altitude glacial lake located in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. Situated at an elevation of approximately 14,100 feet (4,300 meters), the lake gets its name from its crescent moon-like shape. Reaching this pristine destination involves a journey known as the Chandratal Trek, which blends thrill, natural beauty, and spiritual tranquility.

🌄 Starting the Trek

The trek to Chandratal usually begins from either Batal or Kunzum Pass.

• The distance from Batal to Chandratal is about 14 km, which can be completed in a day of trekking.
• The trail offers breathtaking views of rocky mountains, snow-covered peaks, icy streams, and vast open valleys.
• This trek is most suitable during the summer and monsoon months (June to September) when the weather is favorable.

📍 How to Reach?

• You can travel via Manali, then cross Rohtang Pass and head toward Batal or Kunzum Pass.
• The distance from Manali to Batal is about 110 km, and a 4x4 vehicle is recommended due to rough terrain.
• Alternatively, you can also reach Chandratal from Kaza (Spiti).

🕰️ Best Time to Visit

• The ideal window is from June to September.
• Post this period, Kunzum Pass shuts down due to heavy snowfall, and access becomes impossible.
